Digital Print for Packaging Trends
Inkjet and toner printing is well established in label printing and is now moving into mainstream carton; flexible packaging; rigid plastic and metal decorating; and particularly in corrugated. This session shares Smithers Pira’s latest research into the market sizing and prospects, focusing on the fast-changing corrugated sector where new high performance single pass presses are taking share in preprint liner and post print sheet printing. Manufacturers of these high-speed, large format machines are boosting the quality, reliability and performance of their equipment and they are opening new market opportunities for corrugated to engage with consumers in new ways beyond the traditional containment and information functions. New supply chains – subscription service and e-commerce fulfilment – are being enabled to make the packaging more relevant and appealing to consumers. The session looks at these drivers as the sector consigns the boring plain brown box to the past, replaced by an engaging item relevant to the consumer and how these might develop over the next five years.
